There’s that old business saying – find a problem and be the one that solves it. Or something to that effect! Anyhoo, that is a pretty good description for how the lovely Heather from Kippins started her amazing brand of organic comforters for babies. She was on the hunt for a good, trendy-looking, well designed and well made comforter for her first born, one that didn’t have any of the nasties that other comforters are traditionally made of. She couldn’t find what she wanted, so set about creating it. Genius.
There’s nothing not to love about this lady. A former career woman now work at home mum, she juggles two gorgeous boys, running a household and a copywriting business along with the growing empire that is Kippins. Supermum.
And onto the comforters themselves. These things are seriously cool. They’re made from super soft GOTS certified organic cotton in some very awesome prints, perfect for your little one to chew and rub to their heart’s content. There are no buttons or embroidery to come away while your little is hugging and nom-noming away, and their heads are filled with eco-friendly kapok filling with natural antibacterial properties. They’re also machine washable = bonus!
Now, my 13-month-old Harry has never been a comforter kinda baby. But, one look at River Kippins and he was hooked. River is now our trusty companion, along for every ride in the car or pram. He’s getting a bit grubby but nothing a run through the washing machine won’t fix!
The latest and greatest Kippin, Dash, is divine and I have to say my little lady (due October) is going to LOVE him. So well made, so original and just so damn cool.
Heather says she never thought she’d start a company with a product for babies and toddlers.
“I started Kippins because I wanted to buy something and I couldn’t find it. It took me two years to bring this product to life and I’ve nearly given up more times than I can count. Now, the business is growing so fast it makes me dizzy. If you had told me three years ago that I would start a company with a product for babies and toddlers, I would have laughed in your face and resumed flicking through my Vogue,” Heather said.
“I love Kippins. I love what we stand for and who we are. It’s like my third baby, and I love that we can be a part of such a special time in people’s lives, a little part of their family,” she said.
Heather’s first-born Jack is now two and is home with her, as is her second baby Tommy who’s now eight months old.
“Tommy is a totally different baby to his brother – it’s a whole new ball game. But motherhood has given me confidence, maturity, a certain kind of fearlessness. I certainly never would have had the guts to start my own company without having had the experience of motherhood first – the heaven and the hell. Man, is it some kind of heaven when you get it,” she said.
And on that note, do yourselves a favor and jump on the Kippin bandwagon – three brand new Kippins are on their way (and they're AMAZING!) along with more stockists around Australia BUT you’ll have to wait until August to get your hands on one. Add it to your calendar and don’t miss out!
