5 Countries, 7 cities, 10 planes, 2 trains, countless taxies, 2 adults and 2 kids. Under two....
Sounds fun, until that last part hey? Yep, that’s right, my husband and I are about to embark on a part business - part pleasure - part family commitments, trip around the world with our two kids aged 23 months and 7 months. Are we crazy or are we brave? Are we the best parents in the world for exposing our children to different cultures and experiences or the worst for dragging them through multiple time zones and climates? Who knows but on any given day I flip flop between both and land somewhere in the middle and god knows everyone around us seems to have an opinion too.
The truth is, each individual trip had to happen at some point this year and the fact remains that, as Australians wanting to travel to the other hemisphere, once you make the long haul over there it's best to do as much as you can before you make the long haul back. So late last year we made the decision to merge all our trips together armed with the false sense of security of iPads, chocolate bribes and the delusion of a sleeping infant.
As the trip draws closer I am slightly more nervous as the toddler tantrums are getting more dramatic by the day and the octopus like clingy-ness of our baby is now next level BUT I can't help but be excited too. We are visiting some of my favourite cities in the world, visiting some of our favourite people and we both have a few awesome business opportunities to fulfill. I have said it before but travelling is something that my husband and I love to do and, crazy or not, I'm proud of us for still striving to make it possible even now with two extra companions.
Anyone who has travelled with kids before, especially internationally, will know that the hard work starts long before you get on the plane. Packing for two kids and yourself (and husband) is possibly the worst job in the world, second only to packing and moving house. Did I mention that we are doing that too? Just one day before we fly out. Yep, we are serious suckers for punishment / just generally in denial about how much time and work everything requires.
So please excuse the lack of a Fashion specific post this month, the mad scramble and endless to-do list has not left me with much time or inspiration but I promise to come back from my holiday brimming with fashion inspiration, fresh content and hopefully many new additions to my wardrobe!
In the meantime, I think we should consider this my 'before' post. I will definitely be back in about six weeks to share with you the realities of the trip. The highs and the lows, and any tips for travelling with small children I pick up along the way.
And who knows, depending on how bad the jet lag is, or how much refuge I want to seek from my mother in law, I might even be back for a 'during' post! In the meantime, however, you can definitely follow along on Instagram (@themummystylefiles) and send me your traveling tips and duty free requests now!
